[SOLVED] Amazing update (but not perfect)

Postby andrewholmes » May 26th, '12, 08:53

Hi folks,

I set Mageia to upgrade from 1 to 2 while I was out yesterday evening and came home in the early hours to see that everything had finished and a reboot was required.

Subsequently there have been few quibbles but there is one which might be a show-stopper: mcc will not start.

Trying to start it from the cli gives this message:

GdkPixbuf-WARNING **: Bug! gdk-pixbuf loader 'png12' didn't set an error on failure. at /usr/lib/libDrakX/mygtk2.pm line 316.

Any idea how I can get around this without mcc operating? Absolutely everything else works fine, desktop settings preserved, you name it, just this one thing that I can't figure out what to do about.

Any help appreciated.

A. :D

Did you read the errata? The answer is in there.

I had the problem too. I tried a few similar things and I think this solved it for me. (from the errata)

Code: Select all
rpm -e lib64gdk_pixbuf2.0_0-loaders-png12 --nodeps
urpmi lib64gdk_pixbuf2.0_0-loaders-png15

Edit, it seems you posted during my post, but I'll post the solution anyway for other people having the same problem and not wanting to search for the errata.

LOL Yes, of course, now (I hope) properly marked . . . but I wanted to check things before closing the thread . . . :D

Much to my surprise, apart from the odd "issue", this upgrade went extremely well, with most desktop settings preserved and no great trials sorting out the ones that weren't.

What is interesting is that it was possible to do this with Mageia, whereas, in the past, it was not possible without a great struggle (or giving up and reinstalling from scratch) with Mandriva.

It's quite clear to me that a lot of thought and care went into packaging Mageia 2. My machine is a three-year-old Intel Core Duo with an Nvidia card (first time I ever used Nvidia) and 2gigs RAM, the whole thing built here in Korea and still using the original 80Gb hard drive from the original machine I built back in 2004!

I am truly impressed. . . Mageia is delivering a level of care that I never received as a paying customer for MDV PowerPack.

Mageia crew, what can I say, except . . . thank you, and please keep up the good work.

Andrew (nine years in South Korea, soon to be ten) :)
