Most monitors don't have drivers as such, The monitor uses a EDID this tells the graphics driver what it is capable of.

The 6670 will be fine. on the Catalyst driver(AMD's closed source) and the Radeon driver(Open source one)

Vesa is a fall back, This is the specification what all monitors are supposed to follow.

I suggest using ether the Radeon or Catalyst driver.

Depends on what you want, what you need and what your want to pay. If you don't give more informations, hard to give some recommendations.

I suppose you want something like >= 24", >= 1920x1080 and a price point around/below 525$? From a short look Samsung SyncMaster T27A550 has similar specs,
but is also a TV which can play media from USB and sports a CI+ slot, and it costs only around ~385$.

I suspect the question Patrick is asking is what monitor to select when setting up the graphical server, not what monitor to buy. For all modern monitors, the answer is to select "Plug'n Play" - the graphics driver should then automatically configure itself to match the monitor's preferred settings.
