Postby icobgr » May 4th, '12, 20:44

Please show the output of
Code: Select all
ps faux | grep mgaapplet
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

IIRC mgaapplet search only the updates from the repository marked as 'updates', so since there is nothing in these on in cauldron, you will never seen the applet.
Help the bugsquad !

Ahh, yes, good point :D An easy workaround would be to mark all the _release media as update media, so you can do your updates via mgaapplet if that's what you really want. You can do that via drakrpm-edit-media --expert as root

I don't have the release repo's marked as update media, but the applet is finding and reporting updates. I believe that some years ago the applet was modified so that on cooker, it checked release repo's. I assume that this change was carried forward into Mageia for cauldron.

The applet only appears after the repo's have been checked and updates have been found. By default, this will not be until at least 5 minutes after system start-up. Otherwise, the applet does not appear.

I have two instalaltions of new Mageia Cauldron.
First installation I have made from beta 2 disk on my laptop and then I used Cauldron repository for update and other packages installaiton. On laptop mgaapplet appear in the tray from the bginning and works OK there.
Second installation I have made on my desktop computer when beta 3 was announced and I made it from Internet installation from Cauldron repository. mgapplet never appear in the tray. I allways used MCC to update new packages because mgaapplet never appear in the tray. I even tried uninstall and install again mgaapplet but this didn't help. In media configuration all update medias are selected for update.
