Huawei has a bad reputation about linux compatibility
But, on some french sites, it is said to be working under ubuntu linux, that means that there is some chance that this modem works under any linux distribution.

First question : are you under KDE or GNOME and did your modem cause some reaction when plugged. For example, is there a new line that appears in the network center if it is plugged ?

Good afternoon. My Huawei modem is working perfectly in ubuntu 10.4 and xubuntu under GNOME. I've tried to use it with Mandriva, and I couldn't get trough. I've allwais been under KDE in Mandriva and GNOME in Ubuntu(and, of course under Xfce in Xubuntu.

My favorite linux distribution is Mandriva, but I can olnly use it in my desktop, because when using my notebook I allwis connect to internet with my Huawei.

I got modem huawei e1750 when I bought my mobile internet connection.
This time I run Mandriva 2010.0. There is problem to make the modem work.
So I made some research through some present distributions how they work with the modem.

Ubuntu 10.10 and 11.04 without problem
Kubuntu 11.04 nothing
OpenSUSE 11.4 (Kde, Gnome) nothing
Mandriva 2011 beta 2 detect, not working
Fedora 14 without problem
Fedora 15 beta detect, not working

This time I'm downloading iso DVD Mageia beta 2 for trying. I will inform.

Aleluja
I managed to start working my modem huawei e1750 under Mageia 1 beta 2.
Yesterday I installed mageia to WMware wirtual machine. I used downloaded iso dvd. I installed Kde.
But it was problem witk Knetworkmanager, because this isn't between packages at dvd.
So I had to install this package/packages with all dependecies manually from other pc,
because I don't have other internet connection on my own pc.
This time I'm writing this reply via internet connection using modem huawei.

I've made virtual machine with Mageia 1 rc dvd.
I start my huawei modem via knetworkmanager (again manually instalation like in case beta 2).
Internet connection is OK. But other no. The same behaviour was in case beta 2.
Any program doesn't want to start and work. It doesn't start firefox, libreoffice, konqueror .... One word nothing.
It is wonderful that logout, shutdown, restart is working, but it must start from Menu->Leave->Logout or Shutdown or Restart.
After correct reloginning (logout and at once login) everithing is OK.

As I mentioned I run virtual machine. I have updated system.
I wait for Mageia 1 rc live kde cd to try it on my real notebook.
