Mouse or keyboard not working in X

Postby Per » Feb 25th, '12, 09:52

I rcently switched from Mageia 1 to Cauldron, and now I can't use mouse neither keyboard under X. I boot to the command line and start X with 'startx KDE4'. If I press ALT+SysRq+R I can press CTRL+ALT+F1 and press CTRL+C to return to command line. When I use XFdrake to setup X the mouse and keyboard works. Keyboard and mouse (using gpm) works on the command line.

I also have this bug.
Yesterday I made move from Mageia 1 to Mageia 2 Cauldron. Update completed successfully, but when I boot, in the login menu, keyboard and mouse does not work.
In Safe Mode, run without a problem. When run in safe mode, startx, mouse and keyboard do not work again.

I tried to use a method of errata MDV 2009.1,
"chkconfig --del messagebus
chkconfig --add messagebus
reboot"

and, unfortunately, nothing helped.

I have mouse on PS/2 and keyboard on USB 2.0.

Anyone know how to fix it?

I have a similar problem, but simply after installing then updating Mageia 1. Wonder about starting a different thread for installation iffies...
Installation went OK. At first system reload, after defining a user, the consequent desktop was a shambles, with a lot of red Xs in place of icons. I managed to log out by right-clicking somewhere, and the re-launch was OK - *except* that the task bar had no menu icon (I managed to add one, which is on the right-hand side with no apparent way of moving it); and *2* system trays, not identical. But it worked.
I then did a system update: initially a few vital packages, then a restart, then another system update which involved hundreds of packages but went OK.
On subsequent system restarts I have no mouse (the pointer is there); and Ctrl/Alt/Del & Ctrl/Alt/Backspace have no effect. Neither Ctrl/Alt/Fn for virtual consoles.
Any suggestions? Otherwise I am locked out of Mageia from the start.

I've updated my M2B1 install ( 32-bit ) using
my local repo mirrored from mirrors.kernel.org.
Test system uses a PS/2 Keyboard and mouse.
Reboot after updates and both keyboard and mouse
are still fully functional.

Not to say there is not a problem here just
I am not having it on one of my test systems.

Mouse and keyboard are both PS/2. Mouse is USB with USB-to-PS/2 converter.

Do not use that. I've had problems with that
combination on Mandriva in the past.

Choose to either all USB or all PS/2. Change and reboot.

I guess i was a bit unclear earlier. My keyboard is PS/2 and connected to the PS/2 port on the computer. My mouse is an USB mouse connected via an USB-to-PS/2 converter to the PS/2 port on the computer. I've been running Mandriva/Mageia for a long time with the same configuration without problem.

I've seen some problems in the past on Mandriva
with Mix and match PS/2 & USB Keyboard and Mouse.
I'd recommend against it. Worst was USB to PS/2
adapters. Never had much luck with them.

I tried to start X with the mouse disconnected. AllowMouseOpenFail in Section "ServerFlags" makes it possible to run X without mouse. The keyboard was still unusable.

I have relooked my problem, which *is* no k/b or mouse, but wierder; and subsequent to system upgrade after installation.

Mageia boots fine via the 'progress' booting screen, then all black for a moment, then...
It goes *directly to the desktop startup screen* (gradually appearing icons ending with "K"), then the full desktop (perverted, with 2 system trays, 2 clocks).
NO login stage; no k/b; no mouse.
My mouse is PS/2, k/b similar (diect to motherboard). No USB nor mix.

Any ideas welcome. Lewis Smith

I also have another problem that may be related to this problem:
I'm not able to charge my cellphone via the USB port. The phone tells me it's charging, but isn't.

That's not related to drivers or the operating system, but to the physical usb port.

I understand that some USB ports do not have +5vdc available
which is needed to charge your cellphone.

In that case I think it wouldn't tell me it's loading. This worked when running Mageia 1 before changing to Cauldron. I even tried another USB port on the other side of the computer case with the same result. It may still of course be totally unrelated.
