Are you getting any?
If so did you click the subscription button or not?
Seems that some people are getting them by default and some are not, please add your experience here and lets see if there is a trend.
Thanks.

I wasn't getting notifications at first so I dug though the User Control Panel until I found where they were turned off.

You should get one now Barry.
After changing the default setting you don't get subscribed to topics that you posted to before the change until you make another post or click that ambiguous subscribe button.

I changed the default value. I post this message again. I should therefore receive
notification from now.

Thanks Ken -I got one! :D
After spending some time searching the phpbb docs I just realized why I have missed some notifications in the past on the mdv forums.
it only sends out the initial notice of a new forum post/topic reply since your last board visit, it does not send notices for every new post/topic reply in the specific forum
Sooo.. if you have three topics running concurrently and three people post replies, one to each while you are logged out, you will not get notified about two of them?
That's pretty bad. I don't understand the logic. :(

I haven't read the documentation but that's not the way I find it works.
Watching three topics A, B and C.
A has one reply while I'm offline I get one notification.
B has ten replies while I'm offline I get one notification.
C has two replies while I'm offline I get one notification.

I am on forums that break this rule and it is annoying to get twenty email notifications for an active topic since my last visit.

That makes more sense - I hope that is how it works out. Thanks.

I'm fairly sure that's how it has been working for me.
