Wifi lost with the last kernel update

Postby Lebarhon » Feb 2nd, '12, 22:40

Wifi was capricious with the former kernel, but with this last one, (updated yesterday) it doesn't work at all any longer ! Coming back to the former kernel, I find again a working Wifi.

Would you mind to provide the relevant portion from /var/log/syslog starting short before the time of the update, until wifi was not working any longer?

Removed the irrelevant parts. Seems Networkmanager and the default Mageia tools
are fighting for the wireless connection. Are you using Networkwanager? I'd just remove it,
or at least reconfigure the wireless connection via drakconnect, and in the final step, uncheck "Allow interface to be controlled by Network Manager"
If you want to do it manually you need to ensure that in your /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0 it says somewhere
Code: Select all
NM_CONTROLLED=no

I had the same problem. I have broadcom wifi set via ndiswrapper.
I only set wifi in Mandriva Control Center -> Manage your network devices again like new wireless connection.

@ferri: You had, or you still have?
BTW, ndiswrapper is probably the worst choice out of the available native linux drivers (broadcom-wl, brcm80211, b43)

I wrote had, so past. Wifi is working without problem. :)
Current broadcom-wl package is not working with my broadcom wifi. And as I mentioned, I am not only one with this problem. ;)
I did not try b43 and why, when I easy set wifi via ndiswrapper in Mageia control center immediately and without problem.
I am satisfied. And it is important, isn't it?. :D

I don't really know :oops:
If I uncheck "Allow interface to be controlled by Network Manager", it re-checks automatically!
Until yesterday, I reconfigured the wireless connection via drakconnect several times with no good results. Today I started on the .10 kernel and the wifi was working.
doktor5000 wrote:If you want to do it manually you need to ensure that in your /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0 it says somewhere
Code: Select all
NM_CONTROLLED=no

I added that and I still have "Allow interface to be controlled by Network Manager" checked. Now it is working, wait and see.
