I see no reason why not as it's available in both 1 and cauldron or have you heard that it will be dropped?

I'm asking because I was reading the info about Mageia 2 and Xfce was not mentioned anywhere but Gnome and KDE were, So I was curious if it would continue or not.

There are over 17,000 packages in core, the release notes can't be expected to mention every one of them. :P

The release notes actually mention Xfce and others:
Available Desktop Environments
As a desktop-agnostic distribution, Mageia has all the popular desktop environments, along with various window managers. Here's an overview of them:

KDE4
KDE SC 4.6.3. This release brings many improvements and new features for more details check the release announcement.

GNOME
GNOME 2.32, with the plethora of popular applications that come with it (Totem, Rhythmbox, Epiphany, Evolution, The GNOME Archiver (file-roller), Evince, F-Spot… etc).

XFCE4
The latest stable version, 4.8.1, of XFCE, it brings many improvements, for the full details have a look at the XFCE 4.8 release announcement.

LXDE
Latest stable LXDE packages (PCManFM, LXSession, LXTerminal, Gpicview, LXRandR).

Window Managers
Various other window managers, which in reality they're just small and very lightweight desktop environments:
Openbox
WindowMaker
IceWM
Fluxbox
Fvwm2

Yes I know I saw that as well, but again, when reviewing Mageia 2 the only info I see is for Gnome and KDE, hence my question.

I'll just wait until #2 ages a bit then I'll check again.

Good day

No problem. In the meanwhile:
ftp://ftp.mandrivauser.de/mirrors/Magei ... e/release/ shows:
Code: Select all
task-xfce-1-6.mga2.noarch.rpm
task-xfce-devel-1-6.mga2.noarch.rpm
task-xfce-minimal-1-6.mga2.noarch.rpm
task-xfce-plugins-1-6.mga2.noarch.rpm
As you can see, it's part of the current Cauldron for Mageia 2. :)

Thank you,

What does "xfce-1-6" mean?

Also are there any screen shots of M2 yet?

Thanks

Troy

P.S.
The reason I'm asking all this is since Mandriva 2011 sucks and I'm using 2010.2 64bit right now, there for, if and when they ever make a Xfce edition I'm not upgrading, I'm leaving Mandriva in the next few months and I've decided on two distro's, it will be either PClinuxOS or Mageia.

It really is a hard choice between the two, I think it all boils down to what Mageia 2 will be like and what direction it will go. they both have updated software but I think PClinuxOS is more modern. For example, they have a Xfce only edition that they will be upgrading to Xfce 4.10 here in a few months, I really like that.

That is rather meaningless, just the version of the xfce meta-package itself, has nothing to do with xfce versioning.
All the parts of xfce are at 4.8.X which is rather recent :)

And there are no meaningful shots of Mageia 2 Alpha versions because you'd see nothing,
the final artwork will be added much later in the process. Currently it would look like Mageia 1.
