[SOLVED] libjpeg version 6 and libpng version 12 in Mageia 4

Postby Plisgyn » Nov 29th, '14, 21:58

I am trying to run Epson iscan version 2.30.0 on my V370 Photo Scanner and the option to scan into jpeg and png are greyed out. This as I have found out is because libjpeg version 6 and libpng version 12 are required but Mageia 4 has libjpeg.so.8 and libpng16.so.16. Is it possible to also have the older versions as well as the current version as I don't really wish to downgrade in case other programs are affected?

Yes, it is possible to install older versions as well. libpng12 is available in the Mageia 4 repository (package name is libpng12_0 or lib64png12_0, depending on whether you need the 32-bit or 64-bit version).

Have a 50% fix I installed lib64jpeg62 and now scanning jpegs works and after installing lib64png12_0 the option to scan to pngs was now available but when trying to scan a document it came up " There is not enough disk space for operation". This was even when trying to scan a very small section at 50dpi and over 300 gbytes free in home partition.

I have an Epson V100 photo and use the proprietary iscan drivers. However, I've found the iscan application to be buggy in recent years. (This bug being one of several that I've seen.) I use xsane instead. It uses the proprietary iscan drivers, when they are installed, and can save in a variety of formats, including png and jpeg. It has always worked perfectly for me. YMMV

Your right Jim I think I will also try xsane the only reason I updated iscan was I hoped that it had updated to the same PDF function of the Windows Version i.e being able to scan several pages and save as one file.

Xsane can do that. It calls it a multi-page project. There is also gscan2pdf, but I haven't used that recently.

I will try that thanks. After trying Multipage Mode and figuring out the I had to set Wait for Button on the Window/Advance Options to allow me time to change pages to scan all worked o/k. Thank you Jim I will now use xscan instead of iscan
