I am about to upgrade my PC
Does Mageia support intel H97 chipset based motherboards?

As of the last kernel update yes if you are referring to sensors and what not.

Any thing specific or just chip set?

Could not connect to an OV519 based webcam. The box is 64b and most of the applications are OK. The same webcam worked in the "older" pc - also Mageia 4.1 64b. Trying to run "motion -n" I could not pass beyond the error "video0 not found..."

Why didn't you simply ask in the first place for the real problem - how to get the webcam going again?

Missing packages or firmware?
Did you move your installation between those two machines, or did you do a new installation?

And please provide the output of

Then please unplug the cam, open a terminal, and run the following command as root:

journalctl -af

then wait a few seconds, plugin the cam. Wait a few seconds until no new output is shown in terminal, and post the complete output here.

1. It was a clean install. I made it dual boot machine. Windows 7 first and Mageia 4.1 on top of it.
2. I will upload the requested reports.
BTW I stopped both "journactl" files after a while asthey did not return a prompt for more than a minute.

Is the camera directly attached to your new box, or via some usb hub/switch or via some long cable maybe?

1. The 2 journal.txt files I reffered to were 2 journalctl-vf . 1 after I disconnected the webcam and the second was after I reconnected it.
2. The device is connected directly to the PC usb port.
3. I did look at the link doktor5000 sujjested, but could not find a solution (as my familiarity with Linux is limited).

4. As the old machine is right next to me. I connected the webcam to it and it is working flawlessly.

Shot in the dark, go into the bios and check USB settings and enable legacy usb /v1.2 etc

What model/make MB is it?

Can you run the same commands on the MGA3/4 box which is working. Might give an insight as to the problem

Bios legacy usb support is enabled
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97-MD3H
Which "same commands" you suggested to run on the MGA3/4 box. Please give detailed instructions

Run the commands given by doktor5000 on the system that works.

Shame I don't have that cam as have a GA-H97n board as a server.

Yes I did.
I tried it again after 2 days. Same results. No reference to the webcam removal and/or reconnected.
Very odd. Yet this webcam runs perfectly on the old machine
