Ethernet Gadget Stop Working

Postby saptech » Apr 12th, '11, 04:28

It seems when I ran a system update, my usb ethernet gadget stop working using the new kernel, 2.6.38.2-desktop-4.mga. Using the old kernel, 2.6.38.2-desktop-2.mga, it works. Any idea what may have changed or why the usb gadget stop working?

This is what the network manager show when its working:

Wired Ethernet
Linux 2.6.23-uc1/vincent7-udc RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget

Thnx.

Re: Ethernet Gadget Stop Working (Solved)

After thinking about what I did during the initial install, the gadget wasn't working until I unplugged and replugged the device in the usb port. I just did the same thing with the new kernel, and now issue solved.

I'm not sure why it doesn't get picked up during initial installation and now it seems during a new kernel update.

Should I file a bug report about this isse?

Thnx.

After installing a fresh copy of Beta 2 using KDE, I noticed that which ethernet to use is set to wired eth0 by default. During installation, if one doesn't noticed it, it will continue without option to choose a different one, in my case I needed usb0. After installation, again one can configure which device to use, either eth0 or usb0. It just seems that during installation, the option to choose should come up before continuing the installation.

I've seen this when installing Debian and Fedora, they both ask which device to use for network connection during the installation process.

I did file that info on the bug report also.

Just a thought on this.

Thnx.
