Since the BBC upgraded their iplayer software get_iplayer no longer works but I found a workround at
https://squarepenguin.co.uk/guides/tv-download-guide/#How_do_I_record_a_programme_with_get_iplayer which by using a pid number works for individual program downloads but with no EPG.

Further to this thread. I too, had this problem, and moved to pid for a working solution. However, by updating get_iplayer , from the mga version, i.e with get_ipayer --update, as root. It all seems to work as it should.

There is a get_iplayer-2.90 package in core/updates_testing.

The update I carried out above, took me to ver 2.90. Ive not yet tried it except by the pid option, but it did give me programme listings, which the previous version did not.

Just did a quick trial of get_iplayer-2.90 and it now seems to work as well as the earlier 2.85 version used to before the BBC changes

Apparently the package in updates_testing will be removed, unless someone opens a bug report asking for it. So, if anyone wants the latest version of get_player to continue to be available for Mageia 4, you should open a bug report, explaining what is wrong with the 2.85 version.

Ah, my update came from GitHub, I think. It was just one of the commandline options (--update), but has to be performed as root, obviously. I'm quite pleased with this facility, I can see my TV getting even less to do.

Have raised a bug report

get_iplayer new problems [Solved]

I've been using get_iplayer for some time, without problems, but recently it has ceased to work. At first, I assumed that it was as a result of installing Mga5rc, but it seems that that was just a coincidence. I checked with other machines, including MS Windows and they all exhibited the same problem. Furher research indicated that it was a change by the BBC that had caused the problem get_iplayer have responded with a new version, vers 2.94, but that is not yet in the Mga repositories AFAIK. My attempts to use other rpm sources indicated problems with dependancies. Does anyone know more of the problem, and how to get the system running again? I've updated one of the MS Windows machines, but MS command line operations leave a lot to be desired, although the programme does seem to work in the new version.

That's pretty simple, since a few weeks we're in full freeze for the Mageia 5 release that has to be prepared. So no normal package version updates during that time.
But not sure what's so difficult about that, simply download the latest version from
ftp://ftp.infradead.org/pub/get_iplayer/ and use it ...
I've attached the RPM.

Thanks, Doktor. I'd already found the .gz file, and downloaded it for later consideration. The .rpm file that you also indicated was a much quicker solution to the problem, which is now, thankfully, "Solved". Thanks, again
