[SOLVED] How to switch from pulseaudio to plain alsa

Postby gerard82 » Apr 13th, '14, 15:52

Hi all,
Pulseudio clobbers kmix:Only volume can be changed,no bass or treble control or anything else.
Other distro's I tried allow a choice.
Apparently in Mageia this choice is not available, pulseaudio or no sound.
My box has a Soundblaster emu10k soundcard with a lot of controls.
I don't mind using pulseaudio provided it allows kmix to show all the controls.
Is there a way to either make pulseaudio reinstate these controls or go to alsa?
Thanks in advance for a solution.
Gerard.

You can disable pulseaudio via MCC: http://doc.mageia.org/mcc/4/en/content/draksound.html

Hi doctor5000,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I reinstated pulseaudio.
I only get 2 buttons on the sound configuration window.
The top says "reinitialize audiomixer to standard values" (translated from dutch).
The 2nd one says "troubleshoot".
When I click the first, sound from a youtube movie is stopped even though the sliders are not zeroed nor muted.
The second one takes me to a new window with a spiel about pulseaudio and a link to a wiki.
Neither carry a solution to my problem.

Maybe what's in your response is for mageia 3?
Gerard.

Gerard, Have you tried installing qastools? The qas mixer should give you direct access to the hardware even with pulse running.

I can only enter 1 character.
Sorry,
Gerard.

I've edited it - although this thread is primarily about getting your mixer controls to work ...
