Adding Online repositories

Postby niemand » Oct 31st, '13, 03:20

I'm getting ready to update Mageia 1 to 2 via the DVD. I set up the online repositories as suggested here: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Installing_a ... ne_sources.

Questions and problems:
    1. Now I'm seeing all these new media with "(distrib #)" after the name, where # goes from 1 to 40. Are they relevant?
    2. And also there are now ten "Core 32bit..." media. Are they relevant? My machine is a 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo.
    3. I don't see any medium that says "Main" or "Contrib" like the link above describes.

What is going on?

That page was imported from Mandriva's wiki and has not yet been fully adapted to Mageia. Mageia does not have main or contrib repositories. This section of the Release Notes explains Mageia's repositories:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_2_Rel ... positories
also here: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_management

The 32 bit repo's are enabled in a 64 bit installation, because some software is available only as 32 bit.

To upgrade from Mageia 1 to Mageia 2 using the Classical DVD, follow the instructions here: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_2_Rel ... to_Upgrade

It is also possible to upgrade over the Internet: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_2_Rel ... e_Internet

(Mageia 2 will be EOL next month.)

What about all the duplicate media with "(distrib #)"? Do I keep those and check the "Enabled" or "Updates" boxes?
Examples:
    1. Core Relase
    2. Core Updates
    3. Core Relase (distrib1)
    4. Core Updates (distrib3)
    5. Nonfree Updates
    6. Nonfree Updates (distrib13)

Hi,
If you plan to update with the DVD, the repositories are useless, you must set them after the update.
If for any reason, you want to have a clean setting of the repositories, you can first delete and then reinstall them all as shown here
