can you see some error messages if you run mcc from a terminal as root?

Code: Select all
$ su -
Password:
# mcc
# "/usr/bin/drakmenustyle" is not executable [Menus] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 823.
"/usr/sbin/drakbackup" is not executable [Backups] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 823.
"/usr/sbin/drakvirt" is not executable [Virtualization] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 823.
"/usr/sbin/msecgui" is not executable [Security Level] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 823.
"/usr/sbin/tomoyo-gui" is not executable [Tomoyo Policy] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 823.
"/usr/sbin/drakguard" is not executable [Parental Controls] at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 823.

Those are only information messages not error messages.
If mcc loads and runs all is well.

What I found is that I only can load MCC through root via terminal.
In normal situation when I clicked to the MCC, it just load blank "query" for 1 sec then it's gone. Nothing load.

whats your DISPLAY environment variable set to

open a terminal and type

echo $DISPLAY

is it the same as your ipaddress or hostname, or localhost.

all xwindows apps need a DISPLAY set to something.

there are defaults but if for some reason its pointing somewhere it should not, you may see similar when firing up from an icon.

roots or any other users environment is different and may not have same issue.

usually when you start mcc as a user it will prompt your for a password, and it stores this for a little while.
