Does the kernel (from net install) support virtio driver?

Postby agnelo » Jun 8th, '11, 20:51

Hi everyone,
My first post here.
I have a quick question: Does the net install kernel support virtio? I'm about to do a net install (boot.iso) in a kvm virtual machine (the host is openSUSE, but it's irrelevant). OK, I'll find out myself, but I thought I would ask first. On most distros (including Mandriva), there is nothing to do. On some others (like ArchLinux or Gentoo) I had to add virtio in the ramdisk after install and before rebooting (otherwise it wouldn't find the virtual HD).

virtio is in all versions of the kernel, or are you asking if the kernel on boot.iso supports virtio ? Hum not so sure about that. But as you say you will soon find out.

It does. However I'm stuck with this error now:

I guess I should rather start a new thread.
