[SOLVED] No UI in KGpg

Postby rodgoslin » Jan 18th, '13, 14:26

I recently installed KGpg, I'd used gpg some time ago in my Mandriva days, but seldom used it, and when I came to Mageia, I didn't bother. The first time I ran it, it was OK, with no problems. However, subsequent to this when I run it, the startup icon bounces about for a long time and then vanishes. Seeminly a crash, but ps -x indicates that the kgpg process is running. The other option, from the command line seems to be Ok in that various non functional things, like kgpg --help, or kgpg -v, work ok. It just seems that the graphical aspect is not there. I know that I can use seahorse and have, but I'd like to know why kgpg doen't go.
My usual gambit in these things, is to uninstall and start again from scratch, but in this case, although only kgpg and kgpg-handbook were installed, the uninstall gave a list of 43 files that would be uninstalled because of "dependancies". I've been through this before. I once ignored the contents of the list and found to my horror that practically all the useful applications on the machine had been removed, and many more didn't work because they, in turn , were dependant on stuff that had been removed. There was so little of the machine remaining, that I reformatted the whole of the OS partition and installed the whole thing from scratch. It took me about two days to get back where I'd started, what with install and update.
Any ideas?

Maybe it is started, and you don't see it because by default it's shown in the systray under the rightmost "show hidden symbols" (rough translation, that's what it's called in german. I've just installed it, and the first time it told me that it needs to start it's wizard for kgpg setup. After that, this dialog doesn't come up, and apart from the hidden systray icon you won't see anything of it except fro the running process.

See the small triangle on the right side:

Ahh, thanks. That was it.under the 'hidden icons' button. Not the most obvious of places. A light grey button in a light grey background. I can stop tearing my hair, now. All I now have to do is work out how to use the function. Thanks again

You can change it to always display. Rightclick on the triangle -> Settings for system tray of control panel -> Entries -> Always visible for kgpg.
