Laptop locking up when screen switches off after inactivity

So, in the latest of a long list of problems with my laptop after "upgrading" to M2, when the screen goes blank after a period of inactivity, the machine locks up. The only way to solve this is to hold the power button down so it powers down completely.

I have absolutely no idea how to even begin to debug this. Anyone able to give me some pointers please?

Macbook Pro, i5, nvidia graphics card, KDE.

Thanks.

Seriously, seriously need to support releases longer than eighteen months.

Hello,
Did you tried :
With a newly created user,
With Gnome
With another graphical driver, if available
Did you have a look in the bugzilla
May be some ideas here https://wiki.mageia.org/en/How_to_ask_help

Had you run flashplayer and/or java in a browser sometime prior to these lockups?

It's nothing to do with flash player or Java. It's when the screen goes blank after a period of inactivity.

Mageia 2 is probably the worst, most unreliable Linux distribution I've run on a laptop. Such a disappointment after Mageia 1 which was excellent.

I will try just not blanking the screen, I suppose that will do as a stopgap until Mageia 3. I knew I should not have upgraded.

You always was a reasonable guy DiBosco and now I read you use MacBook? Hmmmkey :) Well, I use Ubuntu now, so what the hell.
I don't know, but you can always check Xorg log to see if there isn't anything suspicious.
Or getting rid of Nvidia blob if you use it. Nvidia was always great for me and I always said that it's drivers rule, but for the last year or so I had to stop lying to my pocket and finally admit that it's just bad, bad.

Pretty blanket statement ...

What about the questions Lebarhon asked? Without any more details, you can't expect proper troubleshooting, no?

Deleted.

I don't want seem ungrateful for the excellent work done by Mageia. I should probably just go with a different distribution offering LTS.

Well, changing KDE settings so it doesn't switch off the screen after inactivity doesn't even work. Anyone know *exactly* how to stop the computer's screen switching off? Unclicking the option in the power settings does not work.

Code: Select all
xset -dpms

could be of use.
