Screensaver starts while watching Flash Videos

Postby onikage » Dec 3rd, '12, 01:06

Hey,
I'm using xfce4 and the built-in XScreenSaver 5.15
I have this annoying issue that the screensaver pops-up while I'm watching flash videos. I mean if the video is longer than 5 minutes and I usually leave the mouse alone while I'm watching the screensaver thinks I'm inactive and starts up.

Is there a way to make the screensaver recognize flash videos as an activity so it doesn't turn on while they are running ? Thanks.

No, as flash player is not aware of energy saving features or things like screensaver, and has hence no way to disable those, and does not notify the desktop environment properly that it is running fullscreen.

You may want to to look at some workarounds:

Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

Thanks a lot.
Installing a whole application for this (caffeine) seems like an overkill to me but I may try it out if nothing else works, however the first workaround seems pretty optimal.
I'll test it tommorow and report back.

Edit:

Ok first solution didn't work. Maybe I'll have to install caffeine.
