[SOLVED] Akonadi (Mageia 2) using up 55% CPU=kmail is slow

Postby macxi » Aug 12th, '12, 15:33

Hi,

I imported my emails from kmail in Mageia 1 for kmail in Mageia 2.

Now, Akonadi (in Mageia 2) is occupying 30% to 55% of the CPU (akonadi_gent_launcher). The Kmail is slow.

In a Mageia, this does not happen, where I have the same number of emails (many) and Akonadi and kmail work fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

When I saw that kmail2 requires akonadi/nepomuk,
I made a migration to thundrbird :(

There are scripts to migrate the email from kmail1,
but I lost my filters and some settings,
but I think this is the best way to go

Tom,
I imported a lot of emails with Kmail from Mageia 1 to Mageia 2, so the akonodi slowed for a lot of minutes, almost an hour, probably indexing the files.
I worried about the delay and the slow start, and I open this topic.
Now, Akonadi is normal, taking up very little memory.
Nepomuk was disabled in the 'Mageia 1', and I disabled the 'Mageia 2' also.
Now Kmail is running normal, no problems, so I will not need to migrate to thunderbird.
All is right with the Akonadi Kmail and Mageia 2
So consider this topic solved

Tks for the suggestion

Thunderbird is a good option, I always think to use it if I get out of Kmail, mainly because Thunderbird works fine in both windows and linux.

But Kmail has great features such as the tool to import/export filters, is very lightweight and has good tools for managing multiple accounts.

Which feature would that be?

Maybe I missed something, but haven't Mozilla guys stopped Thunderbird's development?

here the most important I have seen:

I have a gmail account with IMAP enabled.
I'm used to have a local copy of important emails
and related answers threaded together;
In kmail I had some filters to automate the copy of these messages

a Filter in thunderbird can automatically work only in Inbox,
this means I cannot copy my sent email in my local folder
(often I wrote email from a web browser,
so I cannot copy emails in a different folder at sending time)

- (still under investigation) with kmail I was able to download only the emails
not read from the previous connection
(IIRC gmail remembers the date of the last downloaded mail)

- kmail allows you to decide which prefix declare an answer, so that the answer will go in the mail thread
i.e.

mail subj='hello'
answer1 subj = 'Re: hello'
answer2 subj = 'R: hello'

thunderbird seems unable to understand that answer2 is related to mail

Yes and no :D
Yes, mozilla employees won't add further features, as of the current state of the discussion, they will only provide
bugfixes and security updates. And no, because contributors can add new features and bugfixes and stuff as
they see fit.

More details at https://blog.lizardwrangler.com/2012/07 ... nnovation/
