Unfortunate automatic resetting of some plasma components

Hi,

When I booted up Mageia (1) this morning, icons in the bottom panels had been resetted to defaults, including a revert from Kickoff to the traditional menu. Icons I had added aren't there anymore and the ones I had deleted are back. Of course, this is no big deal even if a bit annoying. Especially since I haven't made any changes in the last days. It didn't affect the wallpaper, theme, etc.

More worrying is the fact that my notes written in the desktop note-taking widget have been erased. There were some more important stuff there. Strangely, when I take a look in .kde4/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc, an older version of the file is there (at least a few months old) but is not read by the widget.

Any idea what happened ?

Thanks!

You said that you haven't changed anything for the last few days before that. But have you made any update to the system? Because I have this problem with Mageia 2 though and I am trying to find out the why!

That's a good question. I've tried to remember but cannot recall. I think not but since it's more of an automatic gesture mostly done without thinking about it, I couldn't tell for sure. And I can't find a way to see the updates history.

Also, this morning, I had to reset the bottom panel : it was completely messed up and unusable.

Code: Select all
rpm -qa --last
shows you the packages which were installed, starting with most recent in descending order

Thanks dok,

I can't see anything relevant in these updates. Real weird, but I should mention that it happened to me 3 or 4 times that the whole KDE desktop gets disturbed, disappears for about 3 seconds then comes back with the "Bug or Failure Notification Thing".

Back to our problem, nothing obvious about it..not a clue!!

I'll keep on searching and please keep updated if you come upon something..

Are you using desktop effects, and which graphics drivers are you using? Such a crash (but not the reset of settings) only happened to me once,
directly after Mageia 2 fresh installation, when the system was still using nouveau driver and desktop effects were active.

I am not sure whether you are asking me doktor5000, but just in case, on one machine I am using radeon, on another fglrx.

Both crash at times but since everything goes back to normal I am not investigating it thoroughly..

I would pay more attention next time..
