Backlight problem with Emachines laptop (Intel Graphics)

Postby Yourgoodgod » Jun 1st, '12, 18:24

I have emachines e525 laptop and I installed Mageia 2, but there is a well known problem regarding latest kernels: after boot, screen brightness is set to the minimum value and i can't change it with my Function key on my keybord,so the screen is completely black. The only way is to use an external monitor. As i said this is a well known bug for ubuntu users and there are some workarounds:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/765438

but these don't work for mageia 2. In particular i can't find the folder etc/default/grub, and the command "quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux" doesn't work if I write it on grub command during startup.

Hope I was clear and most important hope you can help me :)

You want to either edit
Code: Select all
/etc/grub/menu.lst
(which is the default location of the settings file for grub legacy, only grub2 uses the one you mentioned IIRC) or do it via drakboot --boot as root or from the Mageia Control Center -> Boot -> Set up boot system -> Next and then Modify the default entry which you are using normally. You only need to add "acpi_osi=Linux" on the append textbox
