Greetings to all the Mageia 2!

So the doubt is, as I did in kubuntu, installed grub legacy wonder can do the same with the second Mageia, install Grub 2, for a user until well told me that it is possible to install on whatever legacy by distributing and also install Grub 2 in any distribution and you tell me what you guys?

Can you please rephrase that so we all can understand what the actual problem is? Most of us don't understand portuguese? Which grub do you want to install where and why?

Sorry for the delay and my bad english.

I want to install Grub 2 in Mageia.

Because I have a HD with four other OSs that use this grub 2.

Ex: Debian sid, kubuntu, Linux MInt (Gnome and Kde)

No need to install Grub2 for that, just setup chainloader entries from Mageia's bootloader to the other Grub installations you want to see in Mageia boot menu.
And vice-versa.

But that is precisely what I want to avoid not have these skills to be moving files the whole linux kernel upgrade.

If you use google translator and read here http://forum.mageiabr.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=721 will see that a grub installed in kubuntu to not have to mess with the grub files.

How was it possible to install kubuntu in grub I think one can do the same in Mageia just do not know until package for testing.

Sorry i don't understand what you mean. The only problem is currently that Mageia doesn't detect other linux distros during installation and adds bootloader entries for them. Otherwise the principle of chainloading is used by almost all operating systems, and you don't have to fiddle with kernel or grub files. Maybe you only have a bit of an understanding problem there ...

I have dual boot between mageia and kubuntu without moving any files grub

As I was installing grub legacy in the "kubuntu"

And this is my challenge and disappointment with myself for not knowing packaging

Well if I knew the rpm package to try to install Grub 2 in Mageia, because I think this is possible.

Or do you mean you have overwritten Kubuntu's bootloader with the Grub from Mageia?

The kubuntu on this: / dev/sda1 <<=Grub Legacy

Mageia been installed in: / dev/sda5<<=that grub overwrote the MBR legacy of kubuntu, managing the boot

I would like to master English to understand a little the question is simple since the beginning, even though the package GRUB 2 is not yet available in two Mageia would be possible to package (myself for example) and try to install the Mageia.

There's no hassle as far as i can see, just understanding problems ...

So what do you want to do?

1. Restore Ubuntu bootloader
2. Integrate Ubuntu entry in Mageia bootloader so you can start Ubuntu from Mageia boot menu
3. Try out Grub2 in Mageia

If 3. why did you mention the problem with Ubuntu, that's what i don't understand. By the way, all options, 1, 2 and 3 are doable. Maybe not really easy, but doable.

Not mentioned problem in ubuntu and not the boot with both distros just asked if I could do what I did with kubuntu. In it installed the same grub that uses Mageia.

Then asked if I could install the same grub that ubuntu uses the Mageia, simple no?

Well, i don't use Grub2, and i'm personally not interested in it, because i don't see practical advantages in it.
Why should i use something else and invest time if documentation is not that complete/good and if it does the same thing as grub legacy?

I'm afraid you have to look in the links i've posted and read yourself into documentation for grub2 if you want to use it ...

The bad thing is I do not master English well in order to try to explain better and I'm afraid you might misunderstand me and so I gave the topic as solved.

Just do not like nor do I hold things as multiboots use and because of the different grubs would have to choose one or the other and this is one way restriction. And that is possible in a "me" has to be possible in another. After all is evolution.

No, for multiboot setups you can use totally different bootloaders, that's why i told you about chainloading. That way you don't have to care about this stuff, just set a pointer from one bootloader to the other. Ok I looked at the links and even know how to do this, but I'm still thinking that would make it easier to have all the distro in a multiboot using the same grub as I did in kubuntu. "I installed Grub Legacy" on it and done a simple update-grub recognizes mageia, PCLinuxOS or had a good intenet to download the 4.x GB mandriva would also be recognized.

But as I said before you were very kind and patience of a rewarding and I am so grateful. Anything I can get in my test, I report on this same topic. An example was unaware of the "alien" and he can try to convert the rpm to grub-pc.

As I lamented in another topic:

I shudder at the possibility of adopting GRUB2 in Mageia 3 as standard without being totally stable, functional and configurable by the MCC.
Mageia 2 is perfect. A diamond polished preciously...

I don't know wheter you're going to understand this, but reading your link I could understand that you have both Kubuntu and Mageia installed, where, in the first place, you let Mageia's GRUb in Mageia's root partition, right? Then you went through the installation process of Mageia choosing the upgrade option rather than installing so that you get to the step of configuring GRUB again, then you installed GRUB in the MBR, right? Now you can boot either, Kubuntu or Mageia, with no problem , right?

Your question is, or should better be; as to my understanding;

Is it possible to install GRUB 2 in Mageia?

Well yes! Mageia is a Linux distro, which means you can install GRUB 2 on it and configure it as to your liking. However you don't need to do so because there are many options to do what you want:

1. You could use Kubuntu's GRUB to boot both distros
2. You could chainload Kubuntu through Mageia as doktor5000 mentioned
3. You could configure Mageia's GRUB to boot Kubuntu directly

Now if you want GRUB 2 in Mageia, we are all waiting for it.

Summing up, you needn't change anything in your installation, just be careful where to install the boot-loader.

No sé si vas a entender esto pero leyendo el enlace tuyo podía entender que tienes instalado ambos Kubuntu y Mageia, donde al inicio dejaste la instalación del GRUB de MAgeia en la partición raíz, ¿correcto? Luego has vuelto a instalar Mageia usando la opción de Actualizar en vez de Instalar con el fin de llegar al paso de instalar GRUB otra vez y lo installaste en el MBR, ¿correcto? Ahora puedes arrancar tanto Kubunto como Mageia sin nigún problema, ¿correcto?

Tu pregunta es, o debería ser como la entiendo yo;

Pues sí; Mageia es una distro Linux, puedes instalar GRUB 2 y configurarlo tranquilamente. Sin embargo no te hará falta porque hay varias opciones para hacer lo mismo..

1. Podrías usar el GRUB de Kubuntu para arrancar
2. Podías hacer chainload a través del GRUB de Mageia como dijo doktor5000.
3. Podrías Configurar el GRUB de Mageia para arrancar Kubuntu directamente.

Ahora si quieres GRUB 2 en Mageia, lo estamos esperando todos.

En resumen; no hace falta cambiar nada en ninguna de las distros que tienes instaladas..solamente cuidado donde instalas el gestor de arranque.
