[SOLVED] LUNA plasmoid failure

I did a clean Bios Network Install of Mageia-1 about 3/4 days ago which also included a clean home partition as well so there was no leftover possible problems resulting from the previous install.
The LUNA install attempt brings up the error message shown in the snapshot.
The error is not consistent since on previous installs of Mageia-1 on this and another machine, it installs OK on some occasions but not on others.
Has anyone else had this problem or is the problem not seen because few here at Mageia use it. :-)

Any help appreciated. Cheers. John.

Have completed a bios network install of mageia-2-beta3. It seems to be working well and I have no trouble with LUNA on it. Luna also works in root of both Mageia-1 and the beta3 on another hard drive.

Could you please run the following in a terminal and post the output here:
Code: Select all
plasmoidviewer luna

Otherwise, does this also happen if you test this under a newly created user account?

Thanks doktor for responding.
The snapshot is the response I got from doing as you suggested.
I opened up a dummy account and the Luna was able to be installed correctly. I removed it and then set up desktops for individual settings, the same as I am normally set up, and installed LUNA again and once more it launched AOK.
I can't think of any of my effects settings that might be the cause but you might have a clue.

Thanks and cheers. John.

Well, it looks the same for me, except that there's an additional line of output:

Code: Select all
[doktor5000@Mageia1 ~]$ plasmoidviewer luna
plasmoidviewer(8969)/libplasma Plasma::FrameSvg::resizeFrame: Invalid size QSizeF(0, 0)
plasmoidviewer(8969)/libplasma Plasma::FrameSvg::resizeFrame: Invalid size QSizeF(0, 0)
link MoonMaster hasn't been detected!

Also no need to do a screenshot just for text output ;)
Nevertheless, i don't know where luna saves it's settings. The only thing i can think of is to boot into failsafe mode and clean out contents of /tmp and /var/tmp where KDE cache is stored.

Thanks again doktor.
I found the screen shot pretty easy to do, quick and picturesque. :-)

What you showed is exactly what I got in the working LUNA in Mageia2-beta3.

I will try your suggestion and come back to you.

Cheers. John.

UPDATE. Emptied both of the tmps suggested and rebooted for good measure but still no luck.

I used an idea variant of ianw's idea over at MUB.
I opened dolphin in root ( <su -> then root password then <dolphin> ) and did your suggested <locate luna.svg> again.
This brought up...../var/lib/mageia/kde4-profiles/common/share/apps/desktop-theme/Mageia/widgets/luna.svg.

This is similar to the </usr/share/apps/desktoptheme/default/widgets/luna.svg> to be found in an account that you found and suggested.
I simply copied the luna.svg and pasted (as you suggested) it into that location. This worked perfectly and I rebooted to be certain it would hold and it did. This meant that I did not have to go out of Mageia at all.

This is obviously a work around but I wonder how the problem originates in the first place ??. This is now only curiosity since so far as I am concerned the problem is now SOLVED thanks to you.

Thanks also to doktor 5000 for helping out.
Cheers. John.

No need to run dolphin as root to locate files, please next time use find or locate for such purposes. In general you shouldn't run graphical programs as root.

Thanks Doktor.
Good advice for newcomers and the uninitiated.
Been solidly using Mandriva and now Mageia for the past 9 years so I use what works for me.

Yeah, being pragmatic is important, but sometimes you should keep some of the practices used to yourself in such cases, if you know what i mean ;)

Sorry Doktor, I didn't realize that there was someone here at Mageia Forum who was judging what methods should or shouldn't be mentioned. Wink Wink Nudge Nudge say no more.
I didn't realize that the forum was only meant for inexperienced, naive and unknowing new chums or that there were pre-approved preferred ways of doing things in Linux and Mageia.
I also didn't realize that I could unintentionally lead fellow users into destroying their Operating System by even hinting at anything that might seem to go anywhere near the sacred site "root".
I foolishly thought that describing what worked for me might be helpful to somebody else. I am truly sorry about that and will try to remember to stay in my place.

As an extra note the Luna widget has been working perfectly on my two machines for some time now, I am pleased to say, as is the complete systems. Mageia -2 is looking great at this stage.
