[SOLVED] Bluetooth with VirtualBox

Postby epp » Aug 2nd, '22, 20:27

Finally installed VirtualBox and noticed an immediate improvement in the OS running, vs. using virt-manager.

I had some trouble accessing the USB devices at first, but after adding myself to vboxusers and rebooted, I was then able to see and add the USB devices (filters) to the VM. Although I was able to successfully pair Bluetooth headphones to a Bluetooth dongle, the audio continued to come out of the PC speakers. Is Bluetooth audio something that ordinarily would not work in a VirtualBox? Host is mga8, guest is Cauldron.

Thanks in advance.

It might help if you would describe what you actually want to achieve. Pair a bluetooth headset with a bluetooth dongle, and then pass that bluetooth dongle to the VM - but why ?

To listen to music through the headphones. If it's not possible through VirtualBox, then it's fine.

But the audio of the VM is passed to the host normally by default, so you can do on the host what you want with it - sorry but I don't really understand your issue.

And that solves the issue. :D

Apparently, virt-manager did not (or does not) pass the audio to the host, as I always had to pair the Bluetooth dongle to the virt-manager VM, to get any audio.

I just paired the Bluetooth headphones to the dongle (through the host) and am now getting the audio from the VirtualBox VM in the headphones.

I am beginning to understand why everyone likes VirtualBox.

Thank you again.

;)

there are some quirks / limitations to VirtualBox, same as you found with virt-manager.

it is just a case of being aware of them (when you find them) and adjust your use accordingly.

Thanks for the tip.

I'm now glad that I installed VirtualBox, it's a lot easier to use than virt-manager.
