[SOLVED] Skype cannot find libatomic on install

Hi,

I receive notifications from Skype about new versions when I log in.

Skype actually works really well on Mageia 8 with a Logitech 720HD web cam. No issues there.

However, recently I have been downloading the new packages and they have been failing to install, saying that atomic or libatomic cannot be detected.

When I check if these are present, they have been installed.

Any suggestions as to why Skype cannot detect them? Can I do anything about this?

Hello,
As you checked that libatomic is available, you can force the installation of your downloaded rpm through, as root:
Code: Select all
rpm -ivh --nodeps ./skypeforlinux-64.rpm

Exactly the answer I expected and of course, it worked, although I had to uninstall the previous version first.

So this means that in future - unless there are any beneficial changes which allow atomic/libatomic1 to be detected during installation, I will have to uninstall the previous version and then do a --nodeps on the new one.

Kind of annoying as this was not remotely an issue until recently, but... it's Microsoft. What else could I expect?

As always, merci to Monsieur Papoteur. :)

Happy to know :)
On your side, you can apply the explained in the cited page.
On Mageia side, a "Provides" could be added to the package such that the corresponding package could be found automatically. This is not (yet) something I can do. To help in this direction, you can file a bug report on on bugzilla ( https://bugs.mageia.org )

Or follow the steps in the wiki. There won't be a Skype package in Mageia in the near future as it is not open source and subject to legal restrictions.
