gpsd fails when wireless off

OK, this is a wierd problem for you all.

I have Mageia 1 KDE running on an Asus Eeepc 701. I use it amongst other things, for recording gps tracks to use on openstreetmap with a USB gps dongle. I am using a semi homebrew version of foxtrotgps for this (I took the cauldron version and updated it from the latest tarball.).

However for testing purposes I am using the supplied xgps.

Now for the interesting bit. If I have the built in wireless on, all works fine as it should, the problem comes when I switch the wireless off to conserve power. After a while xgps fails to see gpsd. If I stop and restart xgps it refuses to run as it says gpsd is not running.

If I then switch the wireless back on, and start xgps all works fine again.

I have tested this many times, wireless off xgps can't find gpsd, wireless on and it works. Anyone with any sane ideas as to why?

The only other non standard software I have installed is jhead from cauldron, a requirement of foxtrotgps, and eGalaxtouch for the touch screen.

PS, I have run various other distros on this Eeep without this problem occurring. I have modified this machine with a touch screen but don't think that has a bearing on the problem as the other distros worked with it.

PPS. Thanks for a great distro, I now have 4 machines here running it and am very pleased.
