Screen size 1280x800 atypical screen, can't get native res

Postby Sabungayam » Sep 1st, '20, 17:17

:?: :?: I have installed Mageia with net-install to this small 8in laptop I have here. The screen is rotated to the left into portrait mode. It is a mobile device screen. I have had no success trying it in live modes.
In Live I am unable to give any parameters to Grub2 such as fbconf=rotate:1 or in X "xrandr -o rignt" they don't work. So I installed to an SDcard on the machine. Thinking that xrandr would work. :?: :?:

These are the errors same as from Live mode.

Code: Select all
xrandr --addmode eDP1 "1280x800_60.00"
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 18 (RRAddOutputMode)
Serial number of failed request: 37
Current serial number in output stream: 38

I do not understand what this means. I do not understand why I cannot add a video
mode this screen supports.

:?: I did newmode and it created this virtual? Why did it not put it under eDP1? I do not understand and Goggling does not provide anything that I can make sense f. Anyone hae any clue what the problem is here? :?:

This is original output before I tried the xrandr commands.

[introvertx95@introvertx95 ~]$ gtf 1280 800 59.70

any clue why it stuck them under virtual? Why they're not available under the actual screen that's connected?

Playing around with Live sessions, Gnome Plasma handled it best & showed an odd refresh rate of 59.70. That's where I got that number. Xfce on the install is running 60 and looks ok but odd on the right edge. As you see my current screen size is 600x800. Is this error because I should swap the numbers? 800x1280 vs 1280x800?

Here is lspcidrake in case it may help solve the hardware or other issues.

Any advice welcome. In MCC there is an option for 1280x800 if I select other. When I click test the screen just goes black. It does not seem to work for some reason though that is the proper screen size for this screen. According to vendor.

Why do you duplicate this from your existing thread viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13656 into a new thread?
