Mageia 8: Virtualbox says no memory, won't start VM

I will start this with the log of Virtualbox. It installed very easily on another system Debian based but I felt Mageia was more stable in behavior. But here I can not seem to start Virtualbox.

This the Virtualbox log.

The 1st time I ran into this, the extension was not installed. I thought that was the problem and installed it.

By the way, that was very difficult it would NOT install that & I got a workaround. I had read all the issues in here about the extension not installing but non of them seemed to be why it would not install here.
I even removed and reinstalled Virtualbox but that didn't help.

In the end, because it was asking me for my root pass then starting the install before I typed it. I opened a root file manager then clicked the ext pack and it opened Virtual box and installed.

Then just to see, I opened Virtualbox nomamally after closing that root session and it said the extension was installed.

I deleted the 1st "new" VM and made a new one. This log message is exactly the same as the 1st without the extensions. Only now it says the extension is installed.

What i understand from this log and the previous is it is literally saying it won't can't start this VM because there's no memory?

My system has 16gb of ram and I allotted 3gb to Windoz 10. Which worked in Debian.

So there seems to be something that Virtualbox is not accessing here? OR can not see?

Is there anyone who can understand this better than I. No more tricks to try because I do not understand what is really going on here.

Failed to load VMMR0.r0

This seems to be the primary culprit. I am sorry but my understanding is not that great. Just as a thought but I am likely incorrect, shouldn't this be related to the kernel, kernel headers & all that?
They are installed according to the package managers. Is there anything else that would cause it not to load this?

Seems nothing further I can do here because I am not seeing anything like this in the forum I can identify. Waiting for someone's reply.

Thank you all.

Code: Select all
ls -ld /usr /usr/lib64 /usr/lib64/virtualbox /usr/lib64/virtualbox/VMMR0.r0
drwxr-xr-x  13 root root    4096 Aug 17 21:54 /usr/
drwxr-xr-x 174 root root  151552 Aug 19 10:25 /usr/lib64/
drwxr-xr-x  12 root root    4096 Aug 19 10:04 /usr/lib64/virtualbox/
-rw-r--r--   1 root root 2549448 Aug 14 05:06 /usr/lib64/virtualbox/VMMR0.r0

Here's the output from listing the Vbox folders and permissions seem to be in order unless I'm mistaken.

So I am not clear at all what is causing the fail. I have no real idea what is going on here.

I raised a Bug about this on the 14th.
It's effectively at release blocker status

Hi, I will check you Bug link... I have found something as I just booted. I had shutdown whereas before I was hitting reboot.

I went to eat and now when I came back, I reistalled everything including the kernel modules, it says when booting that the Vbox kernel module is not active.

Do you get this is well? Haven't had a peek at you link but will do that now.

@wilcal

I see. So it is something in the Kernel or not working with the kernel and there is NOTHING I can do. Above my skill level for certain. So just keep an eye out for a higher level release that may fix this issue.

How unfortunate. I have a need for this but it is not immediate. I of course need to run Windoz in Vbox because of some Windoz only software. I used Mageia because it's much more stable in behavior.

Does Vbox currently work on 7? I wanted some of the things going in 8 here but may need to drop back to 7.1 if my need for Windoz becomes more urgent.

For now I can wait... a bit.
