transition from MBR, Grub2 to UEFI, GPT

Postby hankivy » Dec 14th, '19, 01:25

If I transition from MBR, and Grub2 to GPT, and UEFI do I need to reformat all of my partitions? :?:
P.S. All of my partitions, except SWAP, is in RAID1. The partitions are: root, boot, var, tmp, usr, home, and share.

It appears I need to find space for 2 new partitions. The first is the GPT, GUID Partition Table. The second is the EFI Partion Table, an ESP FAT32 partition.

Can these new partitions be RAID1, supported by software RAID1 on Mageia7? :?:
Do I have to enter the data in the new GPT by hand? :?:

Do I also need to add the folder /boot/EFI to the system (in the boot partition) to serve as the mount point for the EFI Partition Table? :?:

I'm not that familiar with softraid, but I believe the answers are as follows:

yes you need to repartition your disks. no, GPT (GUID Partition Table) is not a partition by itself, it's the name for the partitioning scheme.
yes, those partitions can be RAID1, but you would need to set that up yourself. no, you don't need to enter data in the new GPT by hand.
And no, the Mageia installer should add the partition/filesystem for /boot/EFI - which is the ESP FAT32 partition.
