Incorrect sha512sum Mageia6.1 Xfce 64-bit

Hi folks not exactly in need of advanced support myself, but perhaps you can fast-track me to whom to report this to? :D

I was at DistroWatch, as I often am (I run about 80 Distros), and downloaded the Xfce 64-bit of Mageia 6.1 (I have 6.0 on another machine, but am phasing it out).

The download went fine, but the hot link to the 512sum is bodgy, it is actually for 6.0.

As I understand it, the correct sha256 should be

834fb5085c7b1b16499c123fb46afc5cc3d31fff109a30f50a95e1b2db294671564543bf9646d677c734373d6263042a7b8dfe6fa4b5e013618693f36cffd6ab

... is that so? And that is what my download shows.

All other txt files appear to be OK, including the Xfce i586 - it is just the xfce 64-bit that is flaky.

Someone could do with contacting DistroWatch to fix.

Cheers and keep up the good work

You may want to add some details on where you found that link, as the download page will automatically redirect to a mirror close to you including the links.

I've just checked, and from https://www.mageia.org/en-gb/downloads/ ... 64-DVD.iso and got mirror2.tuxinator.org as mirror.

As soon as your download is complete, you should check that the checksums match:

$ md5sum Mageia-6.1-LiveDVD-Xfce-x86_64-DVD.iso
67c662c85d196b956f6b5ed04967c312

$ sha1sum Mageia-6.1-LiveDVD-Xfce-x86_64-DVD.iso
086005020c50ccfbe91a3ef54a1d30a9fec75ea1

$ sha512sum Mageia-6.1-LiveDVD-Xfce-x86_64-DVD.iso
834fb5085c7b1b16499c123fb46afc5cc3d31fff109a30f50a95e1b2db294671564543bf9646d677c734373d6263042a7b8dfe6fa4b5e013618693f36cffd6ab

Also the link to the sha512 checksum seems to be correct and the actual checksum in there matches with the above.
ftp://mirror2.tuxinator.org/mageia/iso/ ... iso.sha512

Regarding your question, in general such things about our websites belong to bugzilla.
Although in this case I'd wait a day or two and recheck then, as some mirrors might still by syncing ...

An updated install of 6 will have same versions of software as an updated 6.1.

The point is that the isos are updated, so 6.1 installs on some new hardware 6 did not, and that after install you dont have to update so many packages.

You missed the bit about Distrowatch ;-) The dodgy link is in the Mageia 6.1 release announcement that's currently on the Distrowatch front page. The signature and torrent links for the 64-bit Xfce ISO are wrong too. I've sent an email to Distrowatch to inform them about the error, so hopefully it will be corrected soon.

Thanks for pointing this out, wizardfromoz.

Thanks, thought he was just browsing there and went to our download page ...

My regrets for the delay in responding. :D

The penny finally dropped (I understand now). I was struggling with GIMP (not my favourite app at the moment, lol) to insert an arrow on my screenshot of the Distrowatch entry taken at the time, and pointing to the SHA512 link, but I could not yet get the Python script to work properly, so I came up with this

Image

At the same time, I noticed that the error had been fixed :D

I also note today that for each Mageia DE at DistroWatch, there is a different mirror, one in Nederlands, one in France, one in Princeton University USA ... curious.

All my downloads usually come through aarnet.edu.au in Brisbane Australia, including at DistroWatch, so this caught me by surprise.

This page of yours indicates that (unless it changes by locality)

https://www.mageia.org/en-gb/downloads/get/?q=Mageia-6.1-LiveDVD-Xfce-x86_64-DVD.iso

so it looks like this

At least I know for future reference.

And @martinw was right on the money

Thanks for pointing this out, wizardfromoz.

Always welcome :D

I was always OK, I use GTKHash for cross-referencing hashsums, and DownThemAll for inputting the sums where known in advance.

I was more concerned that some of your potential users might be put off if they did not notice the mistake.

All's well that ends well, and thank you for your troubles.

Wizard

Yes, it changes based on your geographic location.
