Downloading updates to USB stick then install on offline PC?

Postby vincentm77 » Jun 19th, '17, 14:04

Hi everyone,

I have 2 computers with Mageia5, one computer is at home and is connected to the internet, the other computer is in my office and is not connected...

Is there a way I could download the updates on a portable drive (e.g. USB stick) at home (unlimited internet access) and then run the updates on my computer in my office ?

since I have a limited internet access in my office, I wish I could just download the updates at home and "bring" them to my office computer...

Thank you
Vincent

Yes that is possible in basically two ways:

- tell urpmi not to remove downloaded packages and then transfer them over to the other box and install them there
See the urpmi man page and look for --noclean
Best also check our software management MAQeia for some more information on software and package management.
- setup one of your boxes with urpmi-proxy, see https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Urpmi-proxy
Although from what I read not both computers are in the same local network, so this is probably not that suitable.

Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!
