This forum is dedicated to advanced help and support :
Ask here your questions about advanced usage of Mageia. For example you may post here all your questions about network and automated installs, complex server configurations, kernel tuning, creating your own Mageia mirrors, and all tasks likely to be touchy even for skilled users.

I have updated Mageia 5 with all the latest changes. When I tried to reboot it hung up and I had to reinstall from the CD.
Startup dialogue:
- Code: Select all
[OK] Started network monitoring daemon (Interactive Firewall & wireless)
[Failed] Failed to start Wait for Plymouth Boot sequence to quit. See "system Ctl plymouth- joint(?)-wait service" for details
[OK] Reached target- multi - User Systems
[OK} Reached target Graphical Interface
Starting Update UTMP about System Runlevel Changes
[OK] started update UTMP about System Runlevel Changes.
It stopped there.
I had to reinstall from CD. When I updated with all the new files it again did not work. The problem has to be in the last batch of updates. I am using the basic Mageia 5 CD with no updates.
Suggestions please.

It would help if you could at least add some basic details about your hardware, like what graphics card and driver you use, and what's in /var/log/Xorg.0.log at the point where the X server does not start up fully.

I am just a user and not very technical. This is from var/log.
- Code: Select all
(**) NVIDIA(0): Enabling 2D acceleration
(II) NVIDIA(GPU-0): Found DRM driver nvidia-drm (20150116)
(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce GT 430 (GF108) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)
(--) NVIDIA(0): Memory: 1048576 kBytes
I do not have the var file from the failure as it never booted.
New question. Obviously an update caused my problem. At this point I have only updated Firefox and Thunderbird. I will also update Libre Office. Is there something I should definitely not update.
Thanks
