How to disable Automatic Update or Check on Mageia?

Postby reltek » Feb 26th, '16, 19:18

I am setting up a Mageia Linux System and I completely want to disable Automatic update. It shouldn't even be checking for any updates. Only when the user wants to check and update. Is there a way to do that in Mageia System. I have looked but have not found any options like that... I did find a option, disable update check at boot. However, I want to totally disable the update. Any hints or clue will be greatly appreciated.

If you completely want to disable the normal check you would need to disable/remove /etc/xdg/autostart/mageia-mgaonline.desktop and /etc/X11/xinit.d/mgaapplet and /etc/cron.daily/mgaupdate
But the following should be sufficient, run as regular user

Code: Select all
echo "AUTOSTART=FALSE" > ~/.Mgaonline/mgaonline

Maybe that setting is also respected for /etc/sysconfig/mgaapplet but I'm not sure.

It should read it from both files i use system one so new user accounts don't need to set up manually.

It should - do you use /etc/sysconfig/mgaapplet specifically to set AUTOSTART=FALSE ?
