Any suggestions for a TV capture USB dongle for Mageia5?

Postby mla » Jan 20th, '16, 16:47

I have a number of old VHS tape recordings that I need to move to some less archaic format. A quick look around the net suggests a TV/USB dongle as the simplest solution. However, a similar search suggests that there are known issues -- e.g. Realtek RTL2832U driver not liking current kernels and such like.

Can anybody recommend a dongle that's known to work "out of box" (or near enough) with Mageia 5?

Thanks. Do we know for a fact that it works with Mageia 5 (or at least with Linux kernel 4.1)?

I have successfully used any dongle with an RTL2832 chip, which is supported by the kernel. You need the dvb-utils package, and Kaffeine for playback. I haven't attempted to drive it with the output of a tape or DVD player.
