[SOLVED] load acpi_call on boot- disable Nvidia Optimus

Postby sunnyjohn » Aug 30th, '11, 07:30

I have an Acer 5830TG with Nvidia Optimus. I can turn off nvidea card with acpi_call and the test -off script but I want to do this automatically at boot.

You would add acpi_call to the modules which get automatically loaded on boot:

Code: Select all
echo acpi_call >> /etc/modprobe.preload

and the call to the script with full path to /etc/rc.local

Method used to get working
1 cp acpi_call.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/
2 echo acpi_call >> /etc/modprobe.preload
3 depmod
4 modprobe acpi_call
5 call to the script with full path added to /etc/rc.local
Nvidia card is now turned off at boot.
It works

Nice one. Just out of personal interest, can you use the same instructions
but just replace the script call to go the complete other way, disable the Intel graphics on boot?

Hello,

is there now a possibility to use only the Nvidia-GPU?

Kind regards

You might want to take a look at the MAQeia for Hybrid Graphics:
