"Dependencies older than the installed ones"

Postby laidlaws » Aug 31st, '23, 02:36

I have just installed Mageia 9. I seem to have wound up with half a distro, with packages missing from both the 32-bit and 64-bit repos. In the case of Freetype6, the 64-bit RPM is marked as essential, and the 32-bit package givdes me a long list of dependencies, then tells me "Sorry, this package cannot be installed," with no explanation. Other 32-bit packages give the message in the heading: "Dependencies older than the installed ones." I have seen this before. Usually it means that the package is in a 32-bit repo that I overlooked, but not this time.

I have rpmdrake set to use the Mirror list. It defaults to aarnet, which years ago, had difficulty keeping up-to-date, as did the Chinese mirrors. aarnet said that both were fed from the same node, so they would be in identical states. Should I set a specific mirror instead?

I added a Chinese mirror as a "specific mirror," and everything installed beautifully. I did not check first whether aarnet had been updated, but I am accustomed to the problems caused by living in the "wrong" hemisphere.

As you can see on the mirror status page, aarnet is completely out of sync. Don‘t use it…

Please don't forget to mark the thread as solved, by editing the subject of the first post and prefix it with [SOLVED], thanks in advance.
