Is it "plug-n-play" monitors, or not? Did I do it right?

Hello, All...

For your notice...

If I have done it the wrong way in Mageia-5 (ie just plug in a new one) then your technical guidance to get it absolutely right would be appreciated.

What is your actual question, what problem do you have related to Mageia, and what did you configure in drakx11?

Please also show the output of
Code: Select all
lspcidrake -v | grep VGA
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!

Hello, Mageia...

No; Doktor5000, breathe easy.

Well, congratulations! Mageia-5 has not stopped - even after my monitor died, and I had to replace it. To me that's a great system - especially for Pnewbies [ie "Post-Newbie"; silent "n"; copyright waived] like ME!

In the previous post I included links to other places showing you the trouble I had with other distros. "Trouble-with-Linux" is exactly why I have been trying to ensure that I have several working replacements when things go wrong. Consider this:- distros become defunct; techos/programmers transfer elsewhere; no drivers; funny "glitches"; package-install problems; "bug-fixes" stay "bug-reports"; and other frustrating stuff can make it (Linux) a real problem for people who just want to get work/things done.

In this regard, so far, [B]MAGEIA-5 has been utterly BRILLIANT! Even on my system - which you might recall is "different" - Mageia-5 has not missed a beat, and been truly REMARKABLE!

Now; I have to tell you that, while trying to recover one of the "lost distros" described in the links (ie for ANTIX Linux on XFCE), I discovered they have a "sisimedia" driver sitting in their Modules directory. To my great surprise and amazement it works with my SiS-6326 graphics card! (Funny that no-one there said so when asked.) Anyway it works. My resolution now goes right up to 1600x1200 (and is even so "fine" that I have had to drop down a few steps).

(That description was only to wrap-up the story there.)

I'm not sure what you (Mageia) have in the pipeline for 32-bit systems, longevity, and driver support (which would allow me to keep my current system rocking along) but I hope it is, at least, as good as this one now. Still happy.

Actually, I really want to know the proper procedure if a monitor goes "pop". With Mageia, I just plugged-in a replacement and it worked. Is that the right thing to do? Do I need to modify any file or change a setting?

Depends on what you configured initially. Usually you just plug the new one and be done with it.

If, during setup, you specified the monitor, card and resolution, yes there may be problems if you change it.

If you set it to "plug + play", as Doktor5000 says, it should just go
