scanners

Recently I installed Mageia 4 on an older PC. It is updated to Kernel 3.14.24 64 bits. Linked to the PC are a Epson perfection 2400 photo scanner via usb and a Acer scanwit slide scanner via scsi. The system insists there are only 2 scanners: Noname Hauppauge that is not in use and Epson GT9300 scanner, but I do not know where that is. Several times I tried to install manually the Epson 2400. It is accepted and then changes (?) into GT9300 and does not function correctly. The scsi is recognized by the system, but not the Scanwit. How to proceed?

Thanks, I replaced the standard iscan by the Epson iscan and now the Epson scanner functions. The scsi Scanwit still is unreachable.

What is the best firm to go for if you must have a scanner. I am tying to help an amateur writer put some of his material online. I am sure that budding authors all over the planet will be interested in getting the best hardware to go with the best software.

Not the most amazing site ever:

(Not that any of the others use the term OCR.)

Please start a separate thread for that.
Also please provide some more details - what are your requirements, what formats should it be able to scan, what's the price range ...
