KVM switch - no video from Mageia machines

Postby davecoup » Jul 14th, '14, 21:00

Hello,

I am using an IOGearGCS24U and have 4 machines on it;
1. Windows 7 laptop
2. Madriva 2010 file server
3. Mageia 4 File Server
4. Mageia 4 File Server

When switched, i cannot get video from the two Mageia boxes. If I reboot with the switch on the particular box the video is recognized and comes on. If i switch during the bootup screen, it will come back. As soon as the login screen appears it will not come back when switched. IOGear support has suggested the device is defective. It is not. I have switched the cables and only the mageia boxes are affected. I built these from scratch and I imagine that it has something to do with the built in video card on the ASUS M5A97 motherboard I used.

Has anyone else encountered a problem like this?

Thanks in advance.

If it works during bootup, it sounds more like a KDE/Xorg problem than a video driver, no ?
If the switch is on one of the Mageia box, do you have access to a virtual console (<Ctrl><Alt><F2>) ?
If yes, login as root to look at the journal from the last boot (journalctl -b) and search for message.
You may also login as a normal user and try the startx command to see if the X server is already running or get any error message if it is not...
