Hi,
Using a clean install of Mageia-4 64 bit, but with update problems, following a bug report I am told that I need to apply the mgaonline-3.10 update,
this has been downloaded as an rpm, however when I use 'open with apper installer' all I get is a window stating
'Your current backend does not support installing files'. ( even directly after a re-boot ).
I get a pop up window stating there are 153 updates, which hangs if review is clicked.
Drakrpm does not show any updates, also kmail will not open.
I assume these problems are down to the mgaapplet crashing all the time.
Any help to resolve this mess will be most welcome. Dave P..

First, you shouldn't use apper. Second, please open a terminal and post the output of the following command:

Code: Select all: urpmq --list-media active --list-url

and, as root:

Code: Select all: urpmi --auto-update --test

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, Done the 2 bits of code, which gave the following listing.
However it failed, ( see end of listing ) Not knowing which rpm's were bad, or what effect it may have to continue I aborted.
so back at square one.

You should remove _all_ your sources and add a complete set of another mirror.

Then try again to update.

Hi, Thanks for the reply,
Sorry but I am totally out of my depth with resources/repositories, and do not know what other
resources could be used, let alone selecting what to use.

From the Control Centre I have a list with entries like the following examples.

Mirror list Core Release
Mirror list Core Updates
Etc, 22 of the entries are ticked.

The Add button is the only option available, using this results in a load of files being downloaded into the
downloads folder. mgaapplet ( which seems to be the main problem ) and associated files has been
downloaded. Can these be used to overwrite the existing, or will that result in a bigger mess than present.

Simply select all the sources, and click remove. Then click add, select full set of sources, and select any other mirror.
It's not that complicated, and that wiki page should explain that pretty good. Did you have a look?

As far as I know ADD just uses mirrorlist.
The only way I found is through File > Add a specific mirror, then choose a mirror and add a full set of sources.

Hi,
thanks for the info, however nothing seems to work as indicated.
I looked at the link "https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Software_management#You_prefer_to_configure_the_official_media_sources"
But where the 2nd screen shot shows two lines refering to the CD. I get the 4th screen shot with about 50 entries.

I was able to remove all the entries, and then clicked ADD, Result a load of files downloaded and the list reappeared only
now with the first 13 original entries missing. ( to me they look important ones ).

The downloaded files all look simular to this '20140129-225217-synthesis.hdlist.cz'

If I select 'File' and 'add a specific media mirror' and select the first entry, much the same happens, a load of files downloaded
then nothing else.

Strangely, using the GUI I have just downloaded cups, which was missing and it all seemed to download and install ok.
previously it did not show up, with search results indicating (none) but not sure if it works.
Currently I cannot set up the printer, as using the set up downloads just hang.
Scanner is set up, but Xsane does not detect it.
The sources list is incomplete ( ? broken ).
Frankly I have just about reached the end of the road with this, thanks for trying, but I think I will give up.

Following my last post, I decided to try "urpmi --auto-update --test"
This reported everything up to date.
So as updates would seem to be working and complete, I will close
this post on Saturday.
And open new posts with Printer, Scanner, & Digikam problems.
