Thanks for the links David, and for the time you must have spent. Unfortunately I've not been able to make any progress.

Ps. My scanner works and I dont have xsane installed at all.

you seem to insist on using xsane.

xsane is not required, it's only a frontend for scanning. But any frontend should work.
Cauldron is not for the faint of heart!
Caution: Hot, bubbling magic inside. May explode or cook your kittens!
