Problem with avidemux (qt version)

I've been spending a lot of time, lately, using Avidemux to convert my old VHS collection to file, prior to ditching the lot. My system, is to use an old VHS/DVD combi recorder to produce a DVD from the tape, and then process the files on the DVD to produce an avi file. This was initially totally successful, though lengthy. However, following a catastrophic conclusion to deleting orphans (see the recent thread on the perils of removing orphans), which required a complete re-install to resolve issues, Following the re-install Avidumux crashes at every attempt to use it. Unfortunately at about the same time as the remove orphans problem, the old tape machine broke down, and I've been blaming the problem on the tape machines replacement. Now, however, I've tried a DVD made with the old VHS machine, which demuxed perfectly, and this too causes Avidemux to crash. There is no common point at which Avidemux crashes, it might do 20Mb or 200. Finally, I used the older DVD copy, and started Avidemux from the control line, in order to see what happened as it crashed. The results are as follows. The lines "Unknown substream 2b", etc run in a short sequence from the start, so have no logical connection to the problem, it would appear.

It does rather seem to be a problem with Avidemux. I shall try the gtk version and see if this is any better. Hope I've got the Code command right.

The nvidia driver for what, precisely? The other thing you requested, the output of the ldd command. There is no file of that name, since I removed the qt version on avidemux, that was in place, and installed the gtk version in it's place.

I use the Nvidia driver from the Nvidia site, and I do not recognize the directory /usr/lib/nvidia-current. This applies to my current Mageia3 64 bit system and to the predecessor Mandriva 2010 32 bit system (which I still keep on this system, though soon it will be archived) and I don't have that directory anywhere. I do have libGL.so and various symlinks in /usr/lib and in /usr/lib64.

Therefore, I would guess that the OP is using the packaged driver.

I also suspect, based on the symptoms, that OP had some library versioning problem which is why avidemux was not working.
