Can't get quad display working

Postby shanep » Jun 22nd, '13, 16:02

I am new to Mageia.. Been on Ubuntu based releases mostly an tried suse fedora etc. Right now both cards are recognized I have a geforceee gtx 460 and a geforce 7600gs hooked up to 4 23" lcds. The wizard I tried a bunch of times didn't get xenirama working. For some reason the top 2 23" are working on the backup video card but the bottom too hooked up too the 460 are not. When I load Mageia the bottom two turn on an show Mageia logo then turn off an the top two turn on an boot the system. My xorg.conf file looks like this

Please next time use code tags ;)

Which wizard did you try exactly? Have you tried nvidia-settings?

Re: Can't get quad display working

I don't know what a code tag is. I used Media Control Center > Hardware > Setup Graphical Server > I tried both cards 400 seeries and later + the Geforce 6100 to geforce 7950.. It says "Your system supports multiple head configurationn. What do you want to do? I tried both Configure all heads independently and Use Xinerama Extension.. for both cards with reboots on all and nothing changed. I have my 460 in my primary pcie and my other card in the secondary one. For some reason the secondary slot is primary and the primary won't activate will Mageia is running. It displays Mageia logo while booting but switches to the other card upon launch. I can't figureout how to activate the bottom card which is registering to the system. I tried the display in the settings and there is only options to mess with the secondary card.. in that setting it says TV under the options for the secondary card.. as if it thinks my other card is a TV.. when i was lookin in the xorg.conf file it says Montiors for the first card and display for the second.. not sure if that makes a difference or not as to why the 460 card isn't displaying. I think Xinarama is what I need. I have 4 23" lcds 2 side by side on bottom an 2 side by side above those. I want to be able to drag stuff from one to the other as if they were all connected in a giant twinview kinda thing

if your using nvidia cards its usually best to use their proprietary drivers and then use nvidia-settings to configure the
multiview.

however under linux ive found this to also be problematic.

i run twinview but manually edited the /etc/X11/xorg.conf to do this.

maybe thats your best option for getting this working.

someone has pasted a 5 screen config on pastebin

here

perhaps you can glean something from this.

I have a 4 panel display working with 2 nvidia cards (both are identical). Basically the trick is use twinview for your horizontal screens and ximera the top and bottom pairs. It works fine for everything unless you have two different Nvidia card types or models. Then it's possible that 3D objects dragged from screen to screen will blackout. 2D works fine though. I also had issues with the mouse not moving from screen to screen vertically, but that was a Nvidia driver problem if I recall.

Good luck.
