Mesa-Common-Devel is not Mesa-Devel

Recently I had occasion to build Xflir5. The source rpm calls for mesa-devel.

Mageia in it's wisdom built a meta package to install the development version of mesa, "Mesa-common-devel"

Why it was not called "Mesa-devel-meta-package"
Why it does not inform the urpmi database that upon installing it, mesa-devel is installed

I don't know!

So, how do I tell my urpmi database that mesa-devel is installed? How do I get the person unknown who made this
decision, to realize that ROW wants to know unequivocally whether the development version of any thing like Mesa is installed
and the ROW thinks it's named XXXX-devel!

Sorry, won't answer that via private mail, as that way nobody in the forums would know the solution, and nobody could participate.

The src.rpm, which includes the spec for the rpm, has some arbitrary tags. Just change them according to Mageia provides of the mesa packages
from mesa-devel to mesa-common-devel. But that doesn't say nothing about which library is really required.
Maybe you should learn how to package and what you're really doing there, instead of complaining that we cannot read your mind and should
name every package and all provides to what you expect them to be.

Apart from that, please stop the trolling.

FYI I got into the src.rpm because you don't have one built.

So, let's start with the nice stuff. Mg2 is the first Linux installation I've seen that can replace MsXp. Period.!!! Got That????

Now, getting Mg2 onto my state of the art AMD Phenom II X4 915e - Zotac 890-GITX-B-E based system with 5 SATA-3 HDDs and one SATA - 3 DVD/RW was a tour de force. It seems that you fixed the installer broken in Mg1, with Mg3. That is good!

Now, Mdk seems to have split into at least 4 distbns last count. So it appears that the Mdk community has fragmented. Lots less manpower
left for Mg,

Since 2010.2, the last stable release, Mg2 is the first improvement.

However, I had to get into the guts of Mg2 to make it work. At 66 years of age, and retired, I'd much rather be fishing, but to make Mg2 work,
I had to go into it's sewers. I found lots of crap down there.

You seem quite confused. What do you want to do, change the urpmi database or query if something that provides mesa-devel is currently installed?
Anyways, neither would help you with your actual problem, but as you're Mr. Knowitall and don't want to listen, go figure it our yourself.

Don't forget this is a community, made out of voluntary contributors.
Lose that attitude, or you won't receive much help at all. Nobody needs to please you, as well as nobody needs to please me (i wonder how you came to that conclusion ...)

Goprisk, for "a very experienced senior consulting systems engineer", it's a pity to experience a lack of empathy.
Your predominant approach is far away from our way of communicating in the forum.
It's no way and unheard to reprove fellow community-members.
And, as doktor5000 already mentioned; it 's all volunteers here, doing their stinking best in their spare time.

So please, refrain from giving reprimands or other demotivating comments.
