[SOLVED] Nvidia display size issue

Postby Toews1921 » Nov 14th, '12, 14:38

Hi all,

I am new to using Mageia, I just came over from the Ubuntu camp and thus far absolutely love Mageia. I started testing it a few weeks back and I have just made it my permanent distro leaving Ubuntu behind. I really like it, but I am having a slight display issue I was hoping someone could help me with. It seems that the desktop is too large for my monitor. I have the resolution for the screen set correctly but the screen display is oversized. The taskbar at the bottom is mostly off the screen as are all the sides. The desktop display seems to have a larger area than the monitor can display and so several parts of the display are not on the screen at all. I just have to scroll my mouse down in to the lower left region and click to get the main menu to come up. I can't actually see the button.

I know I have the correct resolution as I have had other OS's display at this resolution in the past without any issues and I have another computer that I have connected to this monitor as well that can display this resolution.

Any sort of advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

are you using the proprietary or the Open source driver ?
can you post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf if present?

I am using the Nvidia proprietary driver. Here is the contents of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Re: [SOLVED] Nvidia display size issue

I got it working. It was an issue with the monitor. I needed to set the monitor to PC Mode instead of Video Mode. Not sure how it was changed in the first place as it was in PC mode before, but after I switched the mode back to PC it works great now.

I installed nvidia 310.19 - works perfectly on two screens - just does not display the logo at startup
configuration:
Code: Select all
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings:  version 310.19  (buildmeister@swio-display-x86-rhel47-08.nvidia.com)  Thu Nov  8 02:08:55 PST 2012
