how to join to Windows domain with Mageia 2

Postby stblack » Sep 14th, '12, 18:03

Hi.
I'd like to join my Mageia 2 to a windows domain and I would like to know if there is a simple way to do it with MCC or at least a more complex way.
Could someone give me some instructions on how to do it? Is there a wiki page done?
I tried to use a page on a mandriva wiki http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Docs/SysAdmin/Server/Samba/Member, but using smbpasswd after configuring smb.conf and rstarted the service, it's saying :
Code: Select all
See 'net join' for this functionality

with
Code: Select all
net join DOMAIN-NAME
Unable to find a suitable server for domain

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, we don't have a help text for it yet, but in MCC there are two related tools:

Network Sharing --> Configure Windows(R) shares --> Access Windows (SMB) shared drives and directories
and
Network Sharing --> Configure Windows(R) shares --> Share drives and directories with Windows (SMB)

(See http://docteam.mageia.nl/en/MCC/content ... aring.html and the links there for screenshots)

If it doesn't work intuitively enough, you could read chapter 6 of the Mandriva guide here http://doc.mandriva.com/en/2010/Drakxtools-Guide/Drakxtools-Guide.html/.

Unfortunately, when Mageia was born, we couldn't fork the Mandriva documentation for legal reasons. If you get it to work and want to help others who run into the same problem: you're very welcome to help documentation team write the text to go with the screenshots in the first link (and/or to make better screenshots)

Cheers,
Marja
