[SOLVED]Libre Office Base connecting to MySQL/MariaDB failed

Postby janpihlgren » Sep 4th, '12, 11:16

I'm running Mageia 2 64 bit. Libre Office 3.5.5.3 0.3.mga2.
Want to use Libre Office Base and connect to a MySQL/MariaDB database. Trying to use JDBC or ODBC but neiter will connect.
I choose connecting to database JDBC. I don't know what to write when asking for Datasource URL (jdbc:).
I choose to connecting to database MySQL Asked for either ODBC or JDBC. trying JDBC (default). Databasename = bison. Server = localhost. Portnumber = 3306.
Driver sugested to be com.mysql.jdbc.Driver. I accept and hit Testclass. Errormessage: Couldn't get JDBC-driver.

I tried a different way to connect to the database but neiter will connect. Neither MySQL or ODBC.

Anyone that know how to use Libre Office Base and how to connect to a database that already excist?

I think you need to install mysql-connector-java

here there is a good guide to Base:

I have mysql-connector-java.
The guide point to connect directly but there is no such option.
I does that the tutorial says but when I come to the end and have to save the database I get the error Can't load the driveclass 'com.mysql.jdbc.Driver'.

So I can't come longer.

is your mariadb server running?
have you used 127.0.0.1 as server name (you should if your mariadb doesn't accept connection from other machine)?

Yes, my mariadb server is running. I can access the databases through phpMyAdmin and through CLI and MySQL Workbench.
I have tried both 127.0.0.1 and localhost as servername. I always been told that Coudn't load the JDBC-driver.

I'm also testing in Windows 8 and there I get it to work. at the same way as in the tutorial.
I also discover that there is an extension to Libre Office Base, MySQL Native Connector 1.0.1 (unreleased),but sadly only 32bit.

So as I see it, there is something missing in Libre Office Base or it is a bug that make it unable to load JDBC-driver.
I have a partly solution(using Windows :( ) because e friend (senior) I have to help is using Windows.
But I really want to have this problem solved so I can use Libre Office Base myself.

there is another possible problem, "jar is not in your CLASSPATH",
but as I'm not a java expert I don't know how to fix it
and I haven't here my MGA laptop to do some test

The problem is solved! :D :D
When I install an extension, http://extensions.openoffice.org/en/taxonomy/term/308http://extensions.openoffice.org/en/taxonomy/term/308.
The extension is for OpenOffice but runs in Libre Office as well (my experience).
The extension also ada third choise, direct connection.
The extension is named : MySQL Connector for OpenOffice.org Download extension 1.0.1-linux-intel
So for now its working in both Linux (Mageia 2) and Windows 7.
Now I'm happy. :D :D
