Mageia 2 64 Bits WinTV HVR 950Q not working

Postby R_Head » Jun 24th, '12, 19:51

The system that I am trying to install is a Dell Precision 490 with 2 Xeon CPUs and using Mageia 2 64 Bits
Did a uname -r and it says 3.3.6-server-2.mga2

Using a Hauppauge WinTV HVR 950Q USB TV tuner.
Works on Mandriva 2010.2 32 Bits OS
With Mandriva 2010.2 64 Bits video comes out but as before (2009 and 2010.1 32 Bits) no Audio.
If I open the Pulse Audio application you can see the bars moving on the TV Tuner as people talk but no Audio comes out.
Nothing is muted

The Sound Card is...

is your live card working at all?

if not then it may be this

run alsamixer

look at all the settings, one of them may relate to your sound input device.

or that the live is outputing to a different device ie optical

that would be the audigy/live anolog/digital jack

anyhow once you have set this and its working use alsactl store 0 to save the settings then add to your /etc/rc.local

sleep 10; /sbin/alsactl restore 0

you may alos want to add

modprobe snd_emu10k1_synth

as the sblive has an onboard synth

After fiddling with it just gave up and installed back Mandriva 2010.2 32 Bits and all works now.

Both 64 Versions (Mandriva and Mageia) had their own quirks.
On Mandriva I had Video (TV Tuner) no Audio; on Mageia non of both.
On both Mandriva and Mageia the Wireless card did not want to install.

Have not tried Mageia 32 Bits to see if it works.

I think is a Kernel thing.
The install seems to install by default the Server Kernel instead of Desktop.

Can it be made a choice during install?
Some computers like mine could be used as a Server but on this one is not the case; is just a workstation.
