[SOLVED] Kill all processes of the same process name

Postby freetibet » Jun 16th, '12, 15:12

Hi,
I have ssh + currently have a VNC session active to a remote Mageia server…
How can I relaunch a service there ?
It is probably Firefix that has crashed…
Or possibly the window system / VNC session…

when I log in with VNC I get a frozen image of the screen from yesterday afternoon… Firefox is in full screen mode so I can't tell if it's firefox or the windows system…

thanks.

FWIW, firefox is no service, firefox is a normal program. Services, also called daemons can only be started and stopped by root, whereas programs can be killed by the user who started them. So no real need to use su to kill user processes, just kill them as the user they were started under. A more common way to do this would be the widely-known killall command
